Langtang Gosaikunda Trekking in Nepal

Langtang region lies towards the northern side of Kathmandu and boasts of beautiful snowcapped mountain ranges and the very welcoming people of the Tamang and Sherpa community. The holy lake of Gosaikunda is one of the interesting features of this region apart from the picturesque villages and the dense forests covered in different species of wild flowers and abundance of wildlife. Langtang region has moderate climate with subalpine vegetation. The Langtang National Park established in 1976 has given shelter to a wide range of unique flora and fauna found in the region including various migratory birds, Himalayan Tahr, monkey, deer, Pika and the Red Panda that has been listed as one of the endangered species of Nepal.

Langtang region is enriched with gigantically beautiful mountain ranges including the highest mountain of this area, Langtang Lirung (7264 m) on the north, Gang Chhenpo (6,388 m) on the south and Dorje Lhakpa (6,975 m) on the east overlooking against the amiable valley of Langtang. Also, this region is affluent in culture and tradition belonging to the Tamangs and the Lamas. The rich cultural heritages carved in the wooden windows, the dance festivals and the weaving traditions of the local community here make this trip even more interesting. This trekking allows you to unravel the distinct cultural diversity and the natural wilderness. This trekking route is less traveled even though this is very much near and easily accessed from Kathmandu. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Day

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be assisted by our representative and escorted to your designated hotel. Help yourself to get over jetlag with some rest and then amble around the city to get some fresh air.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1550m): 145 km/9 hours

Today, we start driving early in the morning after breakfast from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. We drive initially along the Trishuli River. This nine-hour drive takes you along the north-western of Kathmandu through the scenic foothills, terraced farmlands and the beautiful picture of the countryside. Continue driving along from Trishuli Bazaar where we stop to have lunch towards Dhunche and then take the descending trails to Syabrubesi. The glimpse of beautiful Ganesh Himal will accompany you en route to Syabrubesi.

Day 3: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2380m): 6 hours

Basically, our trek starts right here from Syabrubesi. Trek along the trails from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel, our onward destination and stop for the night. After crossing across the Bhote Koshi River and the Langtang Khola, we take the descending trails towards Bamboo. Thereupon, pursue another ascending trail to Rimche lying at the bank of Langtang Khola, at an elevated height of 2400 m. The trail further brings you to Lama Hotel.

Day 4: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Valley (3430m): 6 hours

Today, we commence our trip forward to Langtang Valley. It will take a combined trek of uphill and downhill to reach our destination today. The beautiful valley of Langtang is encircled with shimmering mountain peaks and is a real treat to the eyes. We track along the trails through Gumanechowk meaning Ghoda Tabela or Horse Stable. Moving towards the valley, we pass through the thick forests above the Langtang Khola covered in oak and maple and the blooming rhododendrons. The enticing visuals of the snowcapped mountains start accompanying you along the rocky paths with multiple stone inscriptions and Mani walls, some beautiful colorful prayer flags. A gradual climb through the grazing pastureland will bring you to the beautiful village of Langtang with rich farmlands of buckwheat, barley, wheat and potato and houses built in Tibetan décor surrounded by huge stonewalls.

Day 5: Langtang valley to Kyanjin Gompa: 5 hours

Our trek directs us past the biggest village Mani wall towards the ridge of a stupa. Along comes a small yet lively village of Mundu making your way towards Kyanijn Gompa passing through several bridges of wooden scaffoldings, beautiful colorful prayer flags, prayer wheels, chortens and rock inscriptions until you finally reach your destination for the day. The valley famous for its cheese factory looks beautiful against the towering peak of Langtang Lirung.

Day 6: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa back to Lama Hotel: 5 hours

Enjoy a scenic breakfast with the gigantic mountain ranges before you and then continue your journey tracking back the same trails to Lama Hotel. Our walk today is mostly downhill and takes about five hours. Enjoy the scenery and relive the moments as we make a gradual descent to Lama Hotel.

Day 7: Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2230m): 5-6 hours

Our destination next is Thulo Syabru. Starting from Lama Hotel, we ascend along the trails through the thick bamboo forest with occasional encounter with red panda. Also, enjoy the radiant beauty of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himal throughout.

Day 8: Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa: 5 hours

Today, we begin our journey through the ascending trails from Thulo Syabru until we reach upon a small village called Dimsa. Continue climbing the uphill trails leading to a dense beautiful forest full of fir and rhododendron with once again enjoying the shimmering lights of the sun upon the Langtang Himal and Ganesh Himal. After about a couple of hours, we climb over the ridge trail apparently taking us to Sing Gompa.

Day 9: Trek from Sing Gompa to Gosaikunda via Laurebinayak Pass (4380m): 5-6 hours

Today, we trek to the holy lake of Gosaikunda. We mount to the ascending trails to Cholangpati all the way through the blanketed forests of blooming rhododendron and pine with the Trishuli River flowing fiercely far below. After Cholangpati, we enter through the Gosaikunda protected area with the towering Langtang Lirung on the north and Manaslu and Himalchuli on the west. The route then leads you uphill to Laurebinayak Pass where you will come across a small temple with an idol of Sakyamuni. Mount the trails for a furthermore passing through Saraswati Kunda and Bhairav Kunda (the glacier lakes of Gosaikunda) along the way and you will finally reach the divine Gosaikunda Lake.

Day 10: Trek from Gosaikunda back to Sing Gompa (3335m): 4 hours

One can never get enough of the divine frozen lake. Explore the celestial beauty of the holy Gosaikunda amidst the serenity. After breakfast, we track our trails back to Sing Gompa once again via Laurebinayak. Follow the trails once more across the deep forests of pine and rhododendrons with the spectacular views of the mountain ranges including Manaslu, Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal.

Day 11: Trek from Sing Gompa to Dhunche: 6 hours

We are almost at the end of our trek. Enjoy your morning breakfast and then gear up for your last trek towards Dhunche. Tumble downhill initially all along the beautiful forests covered in oaks, pines and multicolored rhododendrons until you cross over a suspension bridge. Thereupon, continue taking the even trails to Dhunche via a small village of Ramche on the way. Take out some time to saunter around the charming village and get an experience of country life while in Dhunche.

Day 12:  Drive back to Kathmandu from Dhunche: 7 hours

We start driving early morning to Kathmandu. Enjoy the pleasant and scenic ride back to Kathmandu leaving the charming village of Dhunche far behind

This brings us to the end of our 12-day trekking.
